Mac Thorne's time as a Changeling is coming to an end.
It may have taken eighteen years, but Mac did finally manage to do what the Council wanted she chose a teacher and renounced the in-between.
There's just one last step. She must say goodbye to her human. Forever.
After being challenged in every way possible, Mac leaves what she thought would be the easiest task for the last possible moment. As midnight on July fourth draws near, though, she hasn't found a way to give up Winn Thomas.
Nor does she want to.
With time running out, Mac stands at a literal crossroads.
Choose Winn, and she'll be stripped of the only family she's ever known—vampires, dragons, and her favorite demon. Even her own mother. Accept her position on the Council and rule as an equal to her twelve peers, and she'll forget Winn ever existed.
Independence and freedom have never before been so limiting.
In this final chapter of the 19th Year Trilogy, it's time for Mac to decide.
Responsibility? Or Love?
Darkest Day The 19th Year Book 3 eBook Emi Gayle
The final installment in The 19th Year series delivers in every way imaginable. Mac is finally forced to make her choice, which means giving up Winn. And with everything against them, it's hard to imagine a happy ending to the story. Well let me tell you, Ms. Gayle takes us readers on an emotional roller-coaster throughout this novel. There are so many heartbreaking moments, especially the death of a character that has become very near and dear to all of us. I found myself tearing up many times during this book for multiple reasons. Mainly because of the events of the story, but also because I felt for the characters and what they were going through; the tough decisions they had to make for the greater good. One of my favorite parts of this series is the realistic nature of the characters. Mac and Winn have both grown tremendously since the first novel, Mac especially. She is stronger, even tougher, and willing to take risks even though they might not work out in the end. But Winn is also there every step of the way, helping and guiding her. Both Mac and Winn have had great impacts on each other, to become more open and ready to face the tough situations thrown at them. I loved how creative Mac was at the end with her final decision. It shows just how far her character has come, and she handled the situation expertly.
The alternating POV's helped this novel feel more complete, and gives a good sense of closure to the story. You get to know what is happening from all angles, and the story never lulls. It moves along at a great pace, and you never feel bored. In fact, it's the exact opposite. You never want to stop reading, except for the fact that you know that when you keep reading you'll get the end faster! Ms. Gayle's writing is flawless, and we get to learn even more about Mac's world. Ms. Gayle shows perfect and absolute creativity in this series, and it's definitely something that should cause envy among other authors. All the loose-ends are tied up, so there's no worry that one of your questions won't be answered. However, the story is filled with twists and turns so you're left guessing until the very end.
It's incredibly hard to say goodbye to this series, simply because of how amazing it was from the very beginning. Mac, Winn, and everyone's favorite demon, Suze, have a place in my heart, and it's sad that I won't be hearing anymore from them. However, I won't say goodbye permanently, as I will definitely be re-reading this series many, many times. The 19th Year series starts with a bang, and goes out with a bang. You will not be disappointed! For fans of Ms. Gayle and this series, this is a sure-fire winner. Check this series and this book out now! Happy reading :)

Darkest Day The 19th Year Book 3 eBook Emi Gayle Reviews
So I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was to read this book; I've loved the series from the first chapter of book one and I was totally, completely, twitching-in-my-seat DYING to know how this impossible situation was going to play out. You know that Mac doesn't play by the rules and she keeps jarring the expectations of the establishment (everyone wants to be THAT cool), but how in the world was she going to make it all work out?!?! Well, I spent two days, pretty sleep deprived, glued to my because this is one crazy, roller coaster of a ride!
This is such an emotional book. After the first book from Mac's perspective and the second from Winn's, we get to hop back and forth between their perspectives and experience it all. These two are such unique characters and I can't say I warmed to either of them at the start of the series, but by the beginning of book 3, they both had wedged themselves firmly into my heart. Mac and Winn were tormented by this decision that had to be made and it seemed completely impossible. There's also something incredibly sad that happens in this book. Obviously, I won't tell you what, but I read this part in a doctor's office waiting room, just trying my best not to ball like a baby. If you read Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series where Rose is with Dimitri's family after his death --yeah, just like that-- soooooo deeply sad, but not in that sappy, over the top, drama-y way.
Even with all this emotion going wild, there's tons of action and mystery to this novel. Things are happening and new questions abound; a foe rises up from an unexpected place. There's lots of incomplete answers from the previous books rearing their ugly heads with their need for completion. I truly cannot get over how much Emi Gayle was able to weave into this trilogy without it getting overwhelming. Wow, just wow.
The conclusion of Darkest Day was everything for which a girl like me could ask. Much like the TV series LOST, the 19th Year series had a whopping amount of mystery to be unraveled; unlike LOST, Darkest Day completely satisfied all my curiosity. I'm amazed by the ending, the choice Mac makes, how it all works out. This was a total jump and down, hug my moment. Such character growth! Such plot twists! Such fun! I did actually guess what Mac would choose (totally a random guess), but had no idea how even her choosing what she did would give her that happy ending. And then it all came together perfectly. I cried I was so happy!
I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. See more of my reviews on my blog, Known to Read.
Very enjoyable. Character development, world building, all it was very entertaining. I'd be interested to find other series similar to this one.
i love these trilogy. when i read the first book, i was so much into it that i had to check all the library in my town to see if i could borrow the second book...unfortunately, no library had it. so i had to buy the second and waited for what seem like eternity for the third book to come out.
My favourite character is Suze of course. i wish he wasn't a demon but an angel...love his character so much.
such a great book. please make this into a movie........
No big villain? Just a confused and hurt person. I really misread this one. I thought the real villain was the Prince of Lies himself manipulating the confused girl and the jealous boy all who would be perfect foils for the Dark One. We had demons from Hell. Why not Lucifer himself? Satan had a lot to gain from keeping the discord going. Much more than Maddie ever had. I felt really let down with the resolution. It ended with a whimper.
